Myopia Management
At Carterton Opticians, we believe prevention is better than cure. As Myopia is ever increasing there is also an increased risk of vision loss associate with the condition. There is no safe level of myopia but the higher the myopia the more likely you are to get conditions such as retinal detachment, myopic maculopathy, glaucoma and cataracts. Historically, there was no way to control the progression of myopia and in most cases it would gradually worsen over time until your mid 20s. We are pleased to offer a way of helping to slow it down. The lower we can keep it the less likely of complications as we get older.
The prevalence of myopia is projected to increase from approximately two billion people worldwide in 2010 to almost five billion people in 20501, bringing with it near- and long-term health challenges. In fact, the proportion of young people with myopia in the UK has more than doubled over the last 50 years, in those aged between 10–16 years and children are becoming myopic at a younger age2.
